In this special one-time class on the Theology of Prince, students will be introduced to Prince's shift from eroticism on his 1980 Dirty Mind album to his religious eroticism on his 1981 Controversy album.  We will also discuss Prince's artistic expressions of his spiritual growth from his 1984 movie Purple Rain to his 1990 movie Graffiti Bridge. We will watch Graffiti Bridge in class.

 In preparation for this class, students are asked to:

  • Listen to Dirty Mind
  • Listen to Controversy
  • Watch Purple Rain
  • Read I Would Die 4 U: Why Prince Became an Icon by Touré
  • Read “Prince: A Spiritual Bioarchetypography of Nondualism and Dialectical Psycho-Spiritual Healing” by Pamela Ayo Yetunde
