Circe: Twilight of a Goddess is a unique immersive theatre experience that begins upon arrival. Musicians and performers escort the audience to the shore to usher in the new moon at sunset with a pre-show musical rite inspired by Seikilos Epitaph, the oldest complete musical composition in the world. Once the last color has drained from the sky the play will begin. With the audience seated at the edge of the water, the two floating stages become alive with this debut feminist retelling of an ancient myth. A live ensemble of Cello, Daf, Balağma, and Harmonium soundscape the adventure. Local gourmet food and drink will be served before and after the performance.

Circe: Twilight of a Goddess is a play about divinity at the edge of death. Circe is the witch and ward of the Isle Aeaea, realm of exiled women and wayward nymphs, but she has grown weary under the weight of a long, and tragic life. Dreaming of freedom, she attempts to cast the greatest spell of all: to make an immortal mortal. But with ruthless gods, violent men––even her own father––conspiring against her, what can one woman do?

Myth Reimaged

The Siren Island Crew has teamed up with Max BrumbergKraus, an award-winning playwright to bring this performance to life. The pandemic has forced everyone to reckon with our relationship to death, society, and time. We have used this period of contemplation to prepare our most ambitious production to date reflecting on these subjects and also celebrate the ability to have live performances again. We hope you join us for this special event.
